Aatruku Sellalama? Art Print A3

The concept here is to explore women’s leisure spaces. In the past, especially namba oola, women’s leisure spaces were often shared activities such as fetching water together at the well, river, or pump, bathing and washing clothes together, kolam podrathu, and simply spending time together like playing games, singing, and dancing together.

I think these communal moments provided women with a sense of freedom and connection. However, in modern times, such spaces have decreased, and there are fewer opportunities for women to gather and be themselves in this way.

I wanted to capture and bring that feeling in this piece.
